Gay pride events in Disney Parks are not new. The first Gay Days celebration took place in the mid-to-late s. Disney has been inching closer to a cultural shift over the last decade, slowly incorporating openly LGBT characters into its television shows and animated features including an LGBT background character in Frozen.
I posted this over in my weekly article over at MiceAge, but thought it should be posted here for trip planning purposes. Twice a year, a private group arranges to have "Gay Days" in the park. This is not an official Disney run event, though they do work with the group to rent private venues for the October event.

It is held on the first Saturday in June with numerous other events in the area during the preceding week. The first documented event, in Junehad 3, gays and lesbians from central Florida going to area theme parks on one day wearing red shirts to make their presence more visible.

Hi Dad! I am so glad I visited your site a few days ago, otherwise I wouldn't have been warned that our vacation in Orlando will unfortunately overlap Gay Days! Your site is the only one I've found that is truly "upfront" about this--most other sites and even guide books seem to barely mention it at all, and you'd have to really hunt for it in the first place!
